Lederhosen

Over the past few months, Jack has received so many generous gifts, more than I really know what to do with. Justin and I have so many wonderful friends and family members, and as such, Jack is one lucky boy who has so many people who care immensly about him. We are all so fortunate.

Some of the most interesting gifts Jack has received are the ones that have come from other countries (not to mention the thoughtfulness of our friends to think of him while on vacation). We had friends bring a beautiful clock back from Italy for the nursery, and other friends who brought him back a phone booth 'piggy' bank and toy bus from England.  Then, recently, we recieved a package in the mail from Germany. Justin had the pleasure of working with a amazing German native over the summer. Peter was an enormous help for Justin while he was here, and they even enjoyed skiing together on multiple occasions. Upon hearing the news of Jack's birth, Peter and his parents sent Jack the most wonderful, and authentically German gift I could possibly imagine... real leather Lederhosen (or Lederhose, singular)!

This encouraged me to do a little research on Lederhosen (German for leather breeches). According to Wikipedia, lederhosen were previously worn for hard physical labor, as the leather was more durable than any textile. Now, they are leisure attire. And I will attest that they are super cute when they are sized to fit a toddler. They are a little big for Jack right now, but he'll fit into them eventually, and we will be sure he wears them!
